On October 17th, 2024, Mirza Akhi, a researcher in the D²iCE team under the supervision of Dr. Lubna Luxmi Dhirani and Dr. Ciarán Eising, attended Sea Tech Week 2024, held at Le Quartz in Brest, France. The France-Ireland Workshop on Cybersecurity Risks and Challenges in the Maritime Sector at Sea Tech Week 2024 provided a platform for maritime experts to discuss pressing challenges and showcase innovative research in areas such as cybersecurity, offshore energy, regulation, and maritime governance. Mirza Akhi had the opportunity to present a Mitigating Cyber Attacks in Marine-IoT using AI/ML techniques. This presentation highlighted the importance of using advanced machine learning models to enhance security in maritime environments. It showcased marine-IoT simulation through IoT device simulator tools such as Cooja and ns-3 simulator. It also focused on various cyber-attack models, such as DDoS, Selective Forwarding attacks, UDP Flood attacks, data preprocessing techniques, and dataset creation. These presentation elements received valuable feedback from the audience, underscoring the importance of these simulations for maritime cybersecurity.
