D²iCE Highlights at the 12th IEEE International Conference on Healthcare Informatics (ICHI 2024)

Posted on June 12, 2024

Mirza Akhi, a researcher in the D²iCE team under the supervision of Dr. Lubna Luxmi Dhirani and Dr. Ciarán Eising, attended the 12th IEEE International Conference on Healthcare Informatics (ICHI 2024), held at the University of Florida in Orlando, USA, from June 3rd to 6th, 2024. She presented a poster on "Time Series Anomaly Detection with CNN for Environmental Sensors in Healthcare-IoT. This research implements a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) classifier to detect malicious and non-malicious IoT nodes, such as humidity and room temperature sensors, in healthcare IoT environments. We are particularly pleased to share that this poster was shortlisted among the top 8 out of 23 posters presented at the conference, receiving encouraging feedback. This recognition underscores the quality and impact of our research on patient safety and comfort in healthcare IoT environments.

For Mirza, the Women in Healthcare Informatics Event was a conference feature. In four groups, participants discussed work/life balance and self-promotion topics. Mirza Akhi presented on behalf of her group, sharing their insights and strategies.

This conference brought together leading researchers, experts, and educators worldwide to discuss the latest advancements in healthcare informatics. The advancements included cancer stage classification, detecting acute kidney injury, sleep and arousal scoring, and cybersecurity with AI/ML. Therefore, the IEEE ICHI 2024 conference was a valuable experience for this D²iCE researcher!
